Four Simple Ways to Relieve Stress and Anxiety

Image
Stress and anxiety are common experiences for most people. In fact, 70% of adults in the US say they feel stress or anxiety daily. Here are 16 simple ways to relieve stress and anxiety. 1. Exercise Exercise  is one of the most important things you can do to combat stress. It might seem contradictory, but putting physical stress on your body through exercise can relieve mental stress. The benefits are strongest when you exercise regularly. People who exercise regularly are less likely to experience anxiety than those who don't exercise ( 1 ). There are a few reasons behind this: Stress hormones:  Exercise lowers your body's stress hormones — such as cortisol — in the long run. It also helps release endorphins, which are chemicals that improve your mood and act as natural painkillers. Sleep:  Exercise can also  improve your sleep quality , which can be negatively affected by stress and anxiety. Confidence:  When you exercise regularly,...

Conflict Management Styles for Effective Communication at Work

For effective communication at work, I recommend the following styles to successfully manage conflict: 1. Be Proactive In crisis communications, I often counsel clients and colleagues that before a situation develops into a full-blown crisis, there are frequently warning signs. Failure to observe and act on red flags and warning signs leads to crises. To appropriately address conflict in the workplace, I recommend leaders and staff be as proactive and preemptive as possible. The moment you get a sense that something is off, investigate. Alternatively, if you believe a problem is lurking, preemptively address it. Change course. Choose a different path. The worst thing you can do is pretend that a fire is not a fire or that an ember doesn’t have the potential to get bigger if stoked. 2. Be Clear We have all heard the feedback of sandwiching negative feedback between two positives. I am not sure how I feel about this recommendation because it can lead to confusion. If ...

Image
How many times have you looked at certain people around you and thought how lucky they are to be living the dream life? How do they get everything they want, and I don’t – you might have wondered? Well, living the dream life is not about luck as much as it about hope, commitment and patience. No one just magically gets to “live the dream”. People who are living their dream have reached that place with consistent efforts, hard work and fearlessness and you can too. So, start today by making small changes in your life that are sure to set you up for success. Here are 11 ways you can make living the dream life possible: 1. Know What You Want Many of us spend more time complaining about our lives rather than figuring out what we actually want. Firstly, it is okay to not know what you want. While there are people with clear cut goals, there are others who discover theirs with time. What’s important is making conscious efforts in discovering what your heart desires. So, give ...

4 Morning Habits of Successful People

Image
Your morning can dictate the rest of your workday. It's no wonder that so many successful business people follow strict  morning routines . What do they do exactly? Ask them how they begin their day, and you will see a consistent pattern. This is not just personal preferences either, as  science  has backed up most of these behaviors. Of course, it's not realistic to expect to  mimic their ritual every day  without fail, but if you want to do your best work and be a more productive person, try to follow these four common morning habits. 1. Wake up early. Successful people don't sleep in. They wake up early, ready to attack the day. How early? It can range from 4:30 a.m. for Apple CEO Tim Cook to around 5 a.m. for Xerox CEO Ursula Burns to former Procter & Gamble CEO A.G. Lafley's 5:30 a.m. wake-up call. Early risers have many advantages. They tend to  procrastinate less  compared with people who stay up late at ni...
